The moment you mentioned fusion sneakers, I immediately thought of the Skechers Mary janes. I used to sell shoes the mid 2000s, and that style was very popular with the service sector workers. They looked sort of dressy, but also comfortable. I never liked them, but sneaker wedges are way worse. I hope they never come back.

Even Didier Ludot's store in Paris, Avalon in Portland, Second Hand Rose in San Francisco and Decades in LA, pioneers in the field, are still considered vintage. Even earlier examples like Granny Takes a Trip and Biba which carried clothing from the 30s during the 60s and 70s were vintage. Archive suggests that they are museum quality items which is partially just pretentiousness and marketing. There is also a category called Design Classic, think Eames Chair, Bent steel chrome furniture, Christopher Dresser objects, Chanel jacket/suit, St. Laurent Safari Suit. These are objects that express a high level of craftsmanship and a certain influence over the trajectory of design. It is ideally an object that transcends style and time. The words couture and Haute Couture have been flagrantly abused, yet they still have very specific meanings. Ignorant people will abuse words but the words don't lose their meanings even if misinformed people insist on abusing the expression. The people you describe are paying for the approval of the marketing team and influencers. None of these people have climate controlled museum storage or know anything about textile conservation. It's all attention seeking behavior. Costumes, which you mention are a separate category being produced for film or television or music. It is not fashion but rather celebrity memorabilia. It is created for or acquired for and used by celebrities to reflect their creative ethos. You have no way of knowing what fashion is influential until decades later. Also the Met Gala is a fundraiser for the Met's Costume collection. It's not fashion it's a fancy dress party and the clothes they wear are just goofy costumes or fancy dress and or advertisements or personal branding. Archive goods are either items that come directly from the Haute Couture, samples made for a fashion show, or a design that is really rare and iconic. Mass produced items fall under the category of pop culture rather than "Fashion". Supreme is great example of something that's garbage and falls under the pop culture category. Margiela designs from when he was the creative director might be archival, but once the namesake is gone (particularly if it's a mass produced brand) it's just mass produced junk. If it's really well made that's a plus but that doesn't make it significant enough to make it archival, or museum worthy which is really what I think people are trying to suggest with the word. To recap "Archival" or museum quality work, really only reflects, Haute Couture, or couture and LRTW samples or one offs made by independent designers of note. Or possibly samples made by culturally significant or influential manufacturers, again not including clothing that qualifies as pop culture. The first pair of checkered Vans for example might be museum worthy but all Vans produced later are just junk. Most Nike shoes for example are mostly made in china factory junk. The original pair of Nikes might be noteworthy but the rest is just landfill.

Ooh bubble skirt, I wore one a long one to my prom in '99... Love the video and definitely bringing back some core memories with this one. For me workwear / utility - tech clothes are here to stay though its arguable that it has never left some circles. I thought I would be in oversized tops till the day i die, but I see my wadrobe morphing to my Y2k tees which some I still kept.

You reminded me that there's a Whiting and Davis chainmail top from 1984 I want. I have the purse and necklace, but haven't got the top yet. I have to remind myself of changing my bags, it's so easy to just grab the one that already has all the stuff in it. I usually buy mid sized bags, baby bags don't look useful, there are some big ones I've seen that are tempting.

I have had my eye out for a good bubble skirt for a couple of years now. From all the ones I’ve tried if I go with the short style if it doesn’t have the waist banded it ends up making me look bigger than I already am bc the bubble is too high. Unless you’re a small person it’s not a good look. I did find myself a midi parachute bubble skirt and I am obsessed. Goes with everything and looks fabulous with my red Gucci Adidas Sambas that I wear every dang day. 😊
